Question about CPU performance and memory usage in MB.
I’m preparing a motherboard swap from an old B450M-IBW board to a Prime B450-A II. Everything came out without trouble. I removed the CPU and it was still attached to the cooler. I checked all the pins and everything seems okay. The main question is: do I need thermal paste when installing the CPU on my new board? Specifically, can I install the cooler and CPU together without taking the processor off the cooler? I didn’t remove the switch from the old board, so I’m a bit unsure but want to be sure. Thanks!
It’s best to apply thermal paste carefully and follow proper steps to avoid any damage.
I don't reuse thermal paste. It's affordable, but computer components cost a lot. Some claim it can be used again if the heat performance is still adequate, though your temperatures might not improve much. If you choose to try it, compare your temps after use—both when idle and under load.
Are you referring to one of the CPU pins being slightly bent? If it's near the socket, it should work fine. If it requires tweaking, use a fine tool like small tweezers carefully. The issue is avoiding any damage. Just ensure it fits snugly; otherwise, it might come out. Minor adjustments are usually manageable.
