Modding Skyrim VR has caught my attention, so I’ve started using GPU overclocking to secure more frames.
Here’s what I’m using:
Processor: i7-8700 (not overclocked)
Graphics Card: Zotac GTX 1080 FE (overclock settings below)
Memory: EVGA H370 Gaming Plus
RAM: 16 GB (8 GB x 2) DDRAM Ballistix Sport LT 2666 MT/s
Operating System: Windows 10 on an SSD, Skyrim VR on a separate SSD
Using MSI Afterburner, my profile looks stable with:
Core Voltage: stock
Power Limit: 120%
Temp. Limit: 92°
Core Clock: +240 MHz
Memory Clock: +500 MHz
With this configuration, I’m maintaining the GPU fan at full speed to keep temperatures around 82° during heavy use (tested with Kombustor).
I’m concerned whether this is safe, especially since VR demands high performance and I plan to play 1-3 hours a week.
While both 100% fan speed and 82°C are within recommended safety ranges, I’m seeking a general estimate of the risks.
I’m aware this might slightly reduce GPU lifespan, but I want to be cautious. Could there be any danger to my motherboard or PC unit (which is close to the GPU)?
I need to address my cooling setup, so I’ll explore options and hope this setup allows me to play comfortably for now.
Thanks for reading!
