I experienced an unusual issue a few months ago. My 4-year-old system, which had never caused any problems before, began malfunctioning and then stopped functioning altogether. It was a 5600X with 4x8GB 3200MHz RAM on the board mentioned earlier. After many tests, I concluded the CPU had failed, so I replaced it with a new 5700X. However, I couldn’t boot the system with the four RAM sticks, even though each one worked individually and had functioned together for four years without any problems. Eventually, I purchased two additional 16GB modules, which resolved the issue. Now I’m considering an upgrade again because some tools require more than 32GB, and I worry the same problem might occur, preventing me from booting all four DIMMs. The RAM sticks in question are Kingston KF432C16BB/16. What are your thoughts?

The higher the rated frequency, the tighter the timings, the more dimm slots are used, which increases the stress on the CPU's Internal Memory Controller (IMC). Age and voltage also matter. Silicon variations are involved; typically, no two IMCs can support identical settings. It's best to use two dimm kits. If you can't get enough RAM from two dimm kits, avoid high-frequency models or never enable EXPO.

Hey, I understand—no overclocking planned and the module speed is at 3200Mhz. I’m considering giving it a shot because financially there’s no better choice right now, and I really want to boost the system memory.

2667 over four sticks for AM4* is why I advise beginners against overclocking RAM – you can't simply set a value and expect everything to work smoothly, even with an official XMP profile. This issue has persisted since at least the Phenom II x6 CPUs.

Any EXPO profile over the default is essentially a significant boost. The 3200 setting is manageable for Ryzen 5000; the optimal range was thought to be 3600 C16 with two dimms, which wouldn't function properly with four dimms. People had to lower it considerably—around 2933 at most—to maintain stability over time.

Sure, it would be XMP in this scenario, and I wasn't intending to use them.
I can handle 3000Mhz, and I believe the performance impact wouldn't be significant.
