I possess an ASRock X99 Extreme6 inside a server case with six SAS-8087 connectors on the backplane. There are six connectors available, yet only five are present on my SAS controllers (and five external ones because I’m missing just one). I attempted to use an SAS-8087 for four SATA drives, but the setup didn’t work. Connecting the SAS cable to the first backplane didn’t resolve the issue, as the disks still appeared normal. I tried plugging one of the SAS cables directly into the backplane, but it didn’t help. Does the motherboard support this configuration? The backplane itself lacks a controller, just splits SAS to four SATA ports. The BIOS doesn’t recognize the drives and they don’t spin at all. I’m wondering if the motherboard can handle this setup or if there’s a compatibility problem.
