I’m exploring ways to gather PC specifications over the internet. The challenge is that remote users connect via Meraki VPN, making direct access difficult. My boss advised against sending emails with DxDiag reports, so I’m looking for alternative methods. Tools like SpiceWorks Inventory Scanner exist but need a stable network connection. Any recommendations or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Would adding software to client devices be feasible? I've worked with GLPI and FusionInventory for large inventory projects before. Client machines reach out to GLPI with their details on a regular basis, which FusionInventory then records. This approach differs from LANSweeper and SpiceWorks since the host machine accesses specs through remote WMI queries.

Remote software deployment might work, or it could be handled through Group Policy. I’m curious about using an automated GPO-DXDIAG tool—though it’s a bit odd to bring up GLPI again since we already have it set up normally.

It would require a little more time to extract the information you get, but it's definitely achievable. You might also find that SpiceWorks and PDQ inventory can pull specifications from domain computers without relying on their outdated LAN scanners.
