This is simply a molex powered PWM splitter. The PWM fans operate at a steady 12v. The PWM signal rapidly switches the fans on and off, meaning they're always attempting to run when under 100%. The fans connect via female ports while the 1x male plugs into the motherboard, supplying the PWM signal; the molex only handles power delivery. This setup is compatible with 4-pin PWM fans. If you have 3-pin fans, they rely on voltage control and won't function properly with this adapter since the molex provides a fixed 12v from the PSU. For proper operation, you'd need a dedicated controller with rheostats to adjust the output voltage.

Connection on the motherboard varies; some ports remain unaffected, such as cpu_aux. This also runs at a constant 12v on many budget boards. Beyond that, it depends on the BIOS configuration. Using analog or legacy fan control will only support 3-pin fans, not PWM. For PWM control, ensure the settings are configured for 4-pin ports or use sys_fan1/sys_fan2 which accept 4-pin PWM controllers.
