Tomorrow I intend to assemble my first PC. With a small budget remaining, I’m considering purchasing product keys for Windows 8.1 and using a bootable drive or another storage device. If I acquire it and install it the next day, can I still upgrade to Windows 10 for free on the 29th? Cheers, Doug

As long as you have a valid copy, you can upgrade to Windows 10.

I’m not sure about this, but there doesn’t seem to be a clear reason why upgrading wouldn’t work if you purchase it now or tomorrow. I wouldn’t rely on my judgment alone—please consult someone with more experience for better advice.

It's a good idea to consider upgrading to an Intel CPU later on. Switching your motherboard to an 1150 socket or similar could also help.

Sure, I'll keep it simple. I'm starting with a more affordable PC now, but I plan to upgrade later. I want a 4GB NVIDIA GPU so I can connect multiple units together.
