The title refers specifically to a build setup. I’m not concerned about the cost of the operating system since Win10 is free. However, I’m curious—will it still be free if I just purchased it recently?

Certainly, it will function. Just ensure the upgrade is completed within the available timeframe; the purchase date is irrelevant.

You could have easily searched for it and discovered the answer quicker. Yeah, that makes sense.

I agree. As long as users recognize your key is active, it will automatically move to Windows 10 when the update is available.

Yes, you can also wait a few months and still receive it for free. On July 29th, Windows 10 will be available for a year. Beyond that, it won't be free.

It is confirmed you can format and reinstall Windows 10 without using your old operating system. Although licensing details aren't clear, it seems many believe the license will link to your Microsoft account, so simply logging in after the upgrade should activate Windows. I wouldn't be surprised if the reinstall option remains available even after the upgrade window closes—hopefully Microsoft recognizes there are many valid reasons to reinstall.

I found a used Windows evaluation copy running "evaluation copy"... Would you like to upgrade it to Windows 10 as well? Are there the most affordable and secure options for buying a Windows 7 or 8.1 installation?
