We own the 400 speed service from Xfinity (tests show us reaching nearly 500). After several years with them, we’ve chosen to stop using rentals and own our own equipment. The current setup isn’t causing issues, but renting a modem at $14/month adds up over time. We’re past the point where monthly payments become more costly than buying a quality device. I’ve saved money on networking gear before, so I’m ready to spend wisely again if it means a better product. What modems do you suggest that work well with Xfinity?

The Arris SB8200 and Netgear CM1000 are solid choices. Both support DOCSIS 3.1, meaning you won’t need to change your modem if your plan improves in the future—they can handle gigabit speeds.

The top DOCSIS 3.1 devices are the Fritzbox 6660 (2x2 Wi-Fi AX) and the 6591 (4x4 AC). They deliver high speed, impressive features, strong stability, and robust security. However, outside the EU—particularly in Germany—very few people are aware of them...
