Purchased a second-hand computer with problems involving the Ryzen 9 5900x processor.
Sorry for the lengthy update.
I recently purchased a PC on 5/11/2023. The setup includes:
CPU: Ryzen 9 5900x
Motherboard: Asrock B550 Taichi Razer Edition
GPU: Nvidia RTX 3070 Superium X
Power Supply: Gamemax Rampage 750w modular
Cooling: Corsair RGB fans
Storage: 500gb SSD, 1tb SSD, RAM: Kingston's Fury Beast 32 GB DDR4
There was a recurring problem where the CPU would freeze in a restart loop if it wasn’t set to its default clock speed of 3.7.
After testing with benchmarks and running Starfield, the issue persisted for about half an hour without any significant changes.
Upon returning home, I reset Windows, confirmed everything worked, updated the BIOS with optimized settings, and tried formatting the SSDs and reinstalling Windows.
However, the loop reboot problem continued. I spent three days troubleshooting—changing storage drives, swapping RAM, formatting drives, and even attempting a full system reset.
I consulted the manufacturer’s support, explaining the situation. They informed me that the BIOS version was 1.6, not a beta release, and confirmed they had encountered similar issues.
They refused to take responsibility, claiming I had caused the problem by altering settings or attempting overclocking.
Yet, I noticed some fans stopped working, which seemed like another possible cause. The controller also appeared faulty, with half of the ports not functioning properly.
Despite these findings, I still felt it was unfair to expect a fully functional system from someone who clearly experienced this issue.
I believe it’s reasonable to assume accountability and consider returning the device if it doesn’t work as advertised.
The bios version is 1.6 so it's not a beta version.
I did install all the latest chipset drivers after making the changes in the bios for the CPU to stay on its stock frequency.
As far as what I have researched it's a very common issue of the CPU.
I swapped the storage media and RAM as well, and the issue still persisted. Sadly I don't have another mobo or CPU to see which one is faulty.
Could it relate to the offbrand PSU? I owned a Ryzen 5900X on an ASRock AB350 PRO 4 for some time and it worked well. However, I didn’t install liquid cooling then.
