I used a needle, a magnifier, and aceton on the underside to examine my gold absorption process. It turns out the darker spots are thermal paste—clearly visible in the photo, though it wasn’t as noticeable during the actual work. Removing it was quite difficult. Now it’s almost clean. Regarding cleaning the liquid metal, I tried but it still isn’t fully pristine. I need to be cautious to avoid damaging those surface parts. Edited June 1, 2023 by leclod
Absolutely concur. Unless you have a deep understanding of the individual and they confirm they acted appropriately, I’d treat it as a complete beginner who made a mistake. It’s wiser to invest time and ensure accuracy rather than rushing in hoping they were correct.
Just like before, you can use a hairdryer or heat gun to warm the area. Make sure all the previous acetone is completely removed beforehand to avoid any fire risk from smoke.
Aceton disappears quickly, I haven’t finished using it yet. The motherboard and cooler are still pending, so I’m not in a hurry. If the cleaning process improves, I’ll have more time to consider it. (I’m planning to try that hairdryer trick) Edited June 1, 2023 by leclod
It looks significantly improved now. I attempted heat but didn’t have a hairdryer, so I heated the CPU using a kitchen hob to about 70°C (checked with an infrared sensor). The main boost in cleaning came from a toothbrush with thin, soft bristles. Edited June 1, 2023 by leclod
