Purchased a fresh computer, yet Ubuntu 20.04 installation failed despite all online attempts
System details * Ryzen 9 3900X * Nvidia RTX 2080ti * MSI x570 gaming pro carbon wifi (updated BIOS from site) First issue, inserting a live USB prevents booting into Ubuntu without acpi=off. I attempted nomodeset but it didn’t work. Without acpi=off, the system wouldn’t start either. Second issue, running 'install ubuntu' triggered a fatal error during grub installation on /dev/nvme0n1. I tried manual partitioning, but it failed. To bypass this, I installed Ubuntu 18.04 with acpi=off, which worked. Third, after installing Ubuntu 18.04, I got NVIDIA drivers (version 450) from a PPA using acpi=off. When upgrading to Ubuntu 20.04, the process started but failed at the end with a grub error. It asked whether to continue or stop. The installation became chaotic. Someone, please assist—I paid a lot and now I’m stuck without an OS.
You can verify in the BIOS that safe boot is enabled, as it helps avoid installing the operating system here.
The Ryzen 3000 and Linux setup seemed stable, but the latest BIOS update might resolve any lingering concerns. Verify you're using the most recent BIOS version.
I've shared the video of my process here. You can view it. Thanks for your assistance. Additionally, I've turned off secure boot and updated the BIOS from the MSI motherboard website.
It might be wise to turn off secure boot if it's active. But if useful commands appear in the shell output, they could become distorted before the screen shows them. I'll check bug reports for related issues. In the meantime, could you attempt to boot a Manjaro Live Install media and see how it performs?
Thanks for the idea. I'm currently working on installing POP_OS and plan to attempt it, then switch to Manjaro.
