It was on sale, yet I wasn't aware it wouldn't work with PCI-E gen4 when using anything lower than a Ryzen 3. Worse, it doesn't support gen1 or Athlon CPUs, so I can't install a cheaper CPU before upgrading later. Also, I haven't seen the price drop for the B450 in my country. I didn't expect the price to stay the same after the sale season, but it still feels like a good deal compared to other B450 boards.

Second generation isn't a bad option, though I don't really like the X570-A Pro.

if possible, the board is generally a bad sign. MSI performed well with the B450s but failed miserably on any reasonably affordable model, even those around 250 dollars for an X570 if you have to keep it. Don't push it to overclock, especially not with 12-16 core CPUs—stick to the stock 8 cores and ensure the case provides adequate airflow. This setup is likely to make you feel worse, so consider returning it soon.
