I bought a used PC with these details:
- GPU: 3090 palit gamerock
- CPU: 5950X
- Motherboard: ASUS Crosshair VIII Impact
- PSU: Corsair SF750
- RAM: 2x 32 GB Ballistix RAM
- Storage: 2x NVMe M.2, 2 TB SSD
The problem arises when the PC is under heavy use, leading to a blank display and a "DisplayPort no signal" alert. The PC stays powered on, with the motherboard and RAM lights still active and the fans increasing speed. This happens even when browsing, watching videos, or playing less demanding games like League of Legends.
The PC doesn’t show issues during normal tasks such as web browsing or light gaming. Testing with Cinebench showed the problem occurs regardless of whether I run GPU or CPU tests. The GPU benchmark works even with a substantial undervolt setting, and overheating isn’t the cause—the GPU and CPU temperatures stay below 80°C.
Using a power meter, I measured the wattage during the error and found it never surpasses 550 watts, fluctuating between 400 and 550. This is well under the PSU capacity.
Testing the RAM one at a time didn’t resolve the issue, so it’s unlikely to be memory-related. My suspicion is the motherboard could be the source, though I’m unsure if a defective board would actually power on and trigger this error. Anyone else have faced similar problems? Do you have any suggestions or solutions?
I could suspect the PSU might be the problem.
Check that every power cable is the right kind and firmly attached at both ends.

My card is an overclocked model requiring three 8-pin connectors, which is unusual.
Use just one cable to the PSU for each 8 pin; avoid duplicating.
Also, 3000 series cards often demand very high power spikes.
Even if the average draw seems fine, the PSU peak might fail.
The PSU comes with a 7-year warranty.
Consider opening an RMA with Corsair to investigate the issue further.
In the end, a more powerful PSU might be necessary.
I was also relying on that assumption until I ran the CPU benchmark on cinebench. During this process, I was keeping an eye on the GPU usage, using afterburner and window + g. The problem happened more slowly than the cinebench GPU benchmark, but it still occurred even though the GPU usage was between 0 and 1%. This makes me wonder if the issue isn't related to the PSU.
About your cabling comment, I’ve considered it too and think the cabling could be the cause. I attached the cables I used for the GPU; the highlighted 8 pins are the ones I connect to it. Is that correct?
