I’m not sure about purchasing games through CDs or Steam. If I get a CD, does it work similarly to ARK? When buying from Steam, can it download to multiple computers with the same account? Which option is the most affordable for getting games? Thanks!

1. Possibly.
2. It is possible.
3. Hold off until promotions occur.

Ensure your internet connection is stable, then purchase directly from Steam. You can download games multiple times as long as you have an active Steam account, which is usually more affordable. Finding physical copies of games online is now rare unless you buy them through digital platforms.

Purchasing a CD provides a CD KEY that you input into Steam. Then you insert the CD into the CD-ROM, and the game is installed automatically. The main advantage is you avoid downloading the full game; only updates are available through Steam.

I usually prefer the disc, though sometimes steam is necessary, which is why I enjoy GOG when the game is available, without DRM.

I used to favor CDs since they offered consistent pricing and a tangible backup. After switching to PC, I kept using CDs but found it hard because no one sold physical copies of PC games. The first game I’d buy on PC would be Fallout 4, even though I wouldn’t play the updated version.

If you purchase a physical copy on Steam, you can still download and update it without needing a disc—either by downloading online or from the store. However, only Steam games are supported. For titles like Dragon Age, EA uses Origin, so you can’t play them directly on Steam.

Generally, at launch, major AAA games cost similarly whether you buy physically or digitally. Downloads often drop in price more quickly and sell better than physical copies.

I believe you're asking about updates for games purchased on a CD. Yes, there would be updates available. Most physical formats today require a CD key, so after installation you'd receive updates and patches.

You can also download the game to multiple computers as long as they share the same Steam account. However, I'm uncertain about using the same account for several game sessions at once.

Purchasing games is often cheaper through Steam Sales or on the grey market sites like G2A.
