I plan on upgrading my 4770k That I've had since it launched in 2013. I was initially planning to wait for the x670 boards to launch and buy both a Ryzen 4000 CPU and x670 mobo but, with all these recent hardware releases being sold out instantly by bots and scalpers (PS5, RTX cards) I was thinking I should maybe just get x570 since I can buy it now and it will work with 4th gen Ryzen. I also keep seeing alot of people say that there really isn't much at all that x670 can add feature wise that x570 doesn't already have since, DDR5, PCi e gen5 and USB 4 will be all on AM5 chips. Would it be best to just buy my new RAM and an X570 motherboard and just wait for the new Ryzen chips to launch to only have to worry about buying one item?

It seems unlikely X670 will surpass the features of X570 and B550. I wonder if they'll reduce power consumption enough to skip a fan, but otherwise it's unclear. What are your thoughts on what to combine it with, and do you prefer X570 over B550?

It really comes down to you. If pride gets hurt by realizing you don’t have the top product, just hold your breath. I’m saying this since you’d be amazed by how many people spend huge sums just to own the latest item. If you’re okay with something that works well and comes along when it’s needed, go for it.

It seemed odd that AMD would release a new board for a chip they claimed would be the final AM4 model. I was also interested in B550 boards with additional capabilities such as Gen 4 CPU link, extra USB 3 Gen 2 ports, and other features.

Stay patient for Zen 3, purchase the board then rather than now. What system are you using and what budget have you set?

Fair enough, but you do get the Gen4 lanes of the CPU, it's just the lanes from the chipset that are 3.0/2.0 on B550. If you want a really solid board, you could spend a little less than what you would on the Hero and get something like an X570 Unify. The VRMs on it are almost on par, and it offers a fairly similar feature set, save for the more extreme overclocking oriented ones that you'd find on the Hero. There's also the X570 Tomahawk, though that's quite hard to find.

I need to purchase just a new motherboard, CPU, and RAM. I’m keeping my existing hardware like hard drives, SSD, AIO, fans, PSU, GPU, and case. My budget is $1,000 USD. I was hoping for something with 8c/16t or if the 10c/20t CPU is available, I’d go for that. I’ve spent a lot of time editing and rendering videos. My 4770k still works for gaming, but I notice it’s showing signs of aging. The AIO is only a few months old, and my 1080ti still runs all my games smoothly with Gsync. I plan to wait for Nvidia to release a 3080ti before upgrading.

I really enjoy many positive aspects of the Tomahawk, but I must confess I'm a big fan of Asus ROG boards. Since I already have all the Asus gear, I just wanted to stick with something from ROG.

You can see the pricing for Zen 3 boards. Some affordable choices include the x570 tomahawk, TUF, and Aorus Elite, while the x570 Unify offers a higher-end alternative.
