Rome marked the beginning of its rise, elevating the series to new heights. Though it's an ancient title, it struggles with early 3D limitations. It's affordable but feels weak without enhancements. Authenticity is lacking, yet it offers a fast-paced experience. Rome excels at moving legions from 200 BC, while Egyptians employ chariots and WARPIGS—purchase for the fun. Medieval II stands out as a solid choice despite its flaws; it's packed with issues like Windows compatibility problems, a clunky interface, and excessive space usage. Still, its strong modding community keeps it relevant. The Grand Campaign remains decent thanks to easy file modifications, though it lacks depth in some areas. Buy it if you enjoy mods. Empire is a mixed bag—mod support is decent, but gameplay feels sluggish, the political system is problematic, and the map design feels uneven. It leans heavily on the Americas and India, neglecting Western Europe despite its vast scale. Graphics vary, with some scenes impressive and others disappointing. Sound quality is poor, weapon effects are weak, and the soundtrack is unremarkable. Napoleon offers a European-focused Empire experience, but it's repetitive and lacks innovation. Shogun 2 is the safest pick; it's bug-free, simple, and delivers solid campaigns with decent battles. Siege mechanics are underwhelming, and physics feel lacking without mods. The campaign shines, especially when paired with Empire’s city-building elements. Fall of the Samurai is a standout expansion that should be included. Discard Rome 2 and Atilla if you want a better experience.
