Hey! I’m not sure where to turn for assistance, but I need my PC back online for work. I just swapped out the motherboard, CPU, and cooling system. After plugging in and turning it on, the fans and motherboard lights flicker in and out repeatedly—like a loop. I’ve checked RAM seating and all connections, but everything seems fine. My friend thinks it’s the power supply unit and suggests getting a new one. I’m still confused since it worked before the changes. I’ve attached the video you sent: VID-20220803-WA0001-WA0001.mp4. Here are my specs: Tacens 800W silver PSU, GTX 3080 i7-12700K, iCue H100i LCD, HyperX 16GB RAM (2x8GB), Gigabyte Z690 DDR4.

The PSU experienced numerous problems on company equipment using Enermax power supplies. Over time, some units stopped working altogether.

PSU is likely the issue, probably just a faulty cable leading to a short. You could replace it if you have another one and it supports modular connections.

That isn't a great power supply unit. The RTX 3000 line has significant power spikes, reaching up to 2.5x to 3 times the normal draw. The RTX 3080 can briefly exceed 530W; if your other components are already drawing around 200W, this PSU might fail. Typically, the surge occurs at startup or during heavy usage. I understand it isn't ideal, but I thought it would work for the time being. I've been using the 3080 for a month without any problems.

It's tough to say, but if the power supply keeps being pushed to its limits, every time you turn it on or play a game... If it's a low-quality PSU, it won't last forever; internal parts will wear down or fail. I'm not sure why someone would invest heavily in an RTX 3080 and an i7-12700K but opt for a cheaper, lower-quality PSU. The PSU is one of the most critical components in any PC. It acts like the backbone of your system. I’d have considered adding about $30 to $50 extra for the PSU, rather than spending more on the GPU or cooler.

The PSU is six years old since I was in high school, without a job, the latest components aren't
