Hey there, I noticed some smoke coming from the PSU while I was playing in Outer Wilds. I quickly turned everything off and shut down my PC. I’ve had a Rm750 Corsair for about four years, so I’m wondering if this is normal and what it could mean.

It's unusual for it to smoke occasionally, though it does happen from time to time. The current PSU isn't great, but it seems to work sometimes. These days, warranties are around 10 years—looks like I'm seeing one now. Edited October 24, 2025 by thrasher_565

You definitely shouldn't turn it on using this PSU, correct?

Because you’re aware it was smoking before, I would never turn it on.

I don't have enough context to give a precise recommendation. Could you clarify what you're referring to?

use another machine while the return process finishes or replace the power supply with a confirmed functional or replacement unit.
