Hi,
I’m assembling a new PC from the ground up and am compiling a rough parts list. Since I’m located in Mexico, my options for purchasing components and their prices are quite limited. I already shared some build tips in a thread, but I’d like to focus specifically on the power supply unit. A fellow builder recommended considering a 1200-1300W PSU instead of the 1000W model I currently have.

Looking deeper into PSUs is becoming quite complex (ATX 3.0 versus 2.0, PCIe 5 versus 4, 12VHPWR cables and potential overheating issues). It’s making it hard to keep track of all this information, and I’m especially worried about the risk of cable damage. I thought it would be wise to seek some guidance before finalizing my choices.

Here’s what I have so far:
https://mx.pcpartpicker.com/list/9rjWRv

Component
Selection
CPU
Intel Core i9-13900K 3 GHz 24-Core Processor
CPU Cooler
Corsair iCUE H170i ELITE LCD 82.9 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
Motherboard
MSI MPG Z790 CARBON WIFI ATX LGA1700 Motherboard
RAM
Corsair Vengeance 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-5200 CL40 Memory
Storage
Samsung 990 Pro 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME SSD
GPU
Gigabyte GAMING OC GeForce RTX 4090 24 GB Video Card
PSU
EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 P6 1000 W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply
Case
Corsair 7000D AIRFLOW ATX Full Tower Case

I’m having trouble finding ATX 3.0 or PCIe 5 PSUs on Amazon (MX) at the moment, but perhaps I need to adjust my search strategy. Any suggestions would be really helpful.

Thank you in advance!

Other options include the EVGA SuperNOVA 1600 P+ 1600 W with 80+ Platinum certification and full modular ATX compatibility, and the Corsair HX1200 Platinum 1200 W. These models lack native 12VHPWR cables, though the first one does have them and supports ATX 3.0 and PCIe 5. The reviews on Amazon for the Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 1200W are not very positive.

I have a strong preference for Corsair power supplies and EVGA, with some of my top picks.
Corsair offers a dual 8 PIN to single 16 pin cable capable of up to 600 watts, plus an additional 75 watts from the slot.
I’d recommend the 1200 watt Corsair model paired with that cable.
You can find more details here: https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Categ...0-...CP-8920284
I’m currently using this cable with a Corsair HXI and 4070TI without any problems.
A guy from Microcenter confirmed he’s running the same cable on his 4090 with no issues.
Hope that helps!

Hi! It looks like Corsair doesn't deliver to Mexico, which isn't something I can use. Also, are the native cables for the HX1200 compatible with the 4090?

Unless you possess a fresh power supply with the native 16 PIN (ATX 3.0), you must rely on the included adapter for the 4090. I've noticed some users opting for a 3 eight PIN and 4 eight pin configuration. Many power supplies are typically provided with only two 8-pin connectors. In essence, my view is that NIVDA has significantly improved this situation, making it easier for us. Make sure you fully insert the adapter when using it. If you don't have family in the USA to handle shipping, consider another alternative.

Supernova P+ becomes outdated due to the ACRF topology. HX1200 works well, similar to Supernova P6 1000w. Toughpower GF3 1200w is a solid choice but tends to be noisy. Amazon reviews aren't reliable. Many negative feedbacks stem from user mistakes.

It's great to hear that! You're considering the HX1200, aren't you?

I'm talking to a person about bringing it back next time they come by. I'm checking this cable – should work for the HX1200?

Yes, I'm seeing good results with that cable on an HXI 1000 watt setup.
