So my build is straightforward: 1600x at 4.0ghz, 1.36vcore, 1070 ftw from evga acx 3.0, 2 500gb ssd, 2 7.2k rpm hdd, 2 rgb strips plus 1 halo rgb for a 120mm fan from phantek, 4 140mm fans and 1 120mm fan. The system is a gaming rig with two monitors and also functions as a local server for an emby media server. On a typical week it runs about 4 to 8 hours weekly, while on weekends it’s close to 15 hours daily.

I currently have a 750w bronze PSU from sentey, and I’m considering upgrading to a gold model with warranty. Would a 550w supply suffice, or should I opt for a 650w one? I anticipate upgrading to a better CPU soon—likely a 2700x—and a new GPU, as the 1070 struggles to maintain 1080p at 120hz in most games.

A 550 would suffice, but opting for 600-650 would be safer. Regarding PSU models, I really like the EVGA G3, though the Corsair RM series and Seasonic FOCUS are also great choices. In fact, the PSU you currently have is quite poor, so a higher-quality one at lower wattage will work just as well or better.

Strongly agree with Richie. The PSU is inadequate. The 1600x @ 4ghz consumes roughly 130w, while the GTX1070 draws around 150w max. Combined with other components, you're likely hitting about 450w. As Richie mentioned, a solid 550w would be ideal. I also appreciate the EVGA Gx series. GQ/G2/G3.

Corsair RMx 650w, Seasonic Focus Plus Gold 650w, BitFenix Whisper M 650w, Evga G2/G3 650w — for a setup with 2700x and 1080/ti or similar, plus OC, RGB, drives, and fans, you'll require a 650w unit, not a budget option.
