Hello, there was a lightning strike near our home about a week ago. The TV stopped working but could be fixed. My PS5 and Xbox are plugged into a power strip linked to a UPS, which also failed due to the storm. I moved the Xbox to a better location and connected it elsewhere. It functioned perfectly afterward, so I didn’t test the PS assuming it would work. Now, today I tried playing games on the PS, but pressing the start button or disc open doesn’t power it up. I haven’t used it in two months, so it’s unclear if it’s dead or if a reset is possible. M4A

I discovered this video addressing a comparable problem. It’s logical the PS5 tripped its fuse to safeguard itself. The description mentions an easy fix, but only if you’re comfortable handling electronic parts. It could serve as a useful guide for a repair business. Regarding the Xbox functioning while the PS5 doesn’t, during electrical spikes each device responds differently even with identical UPS connections. By the way, connect your UPS straight to a power outlet—not to a surge protector. The UPS includes its own surge protection and linking multiple units together might lead to issues in both devices.

I’m not attempting that; it might cause more damage. I reached out to Sony, who confirmed they can replace it under warranty, but I still have a disc in my PS5—can I retrieve it?

It doesn't seem to be about the PS5 itself, but most disc drives include an eject button. You might need a screwdriver for the PS console: good luck!
