Proyecto EXÁBITO
Hey there, I'm an entrepreneur based in Ottawa, Ontario, building something special. I'm facing some tricky questions and wanted your advice. - I'm considering a Linux-based OS but don't know how to start or find the right people for it (think Netflix meets PS4). Any suggestions? - Should I go with Linux? If not, what would you suggest instead? - What price range would you expect for a console that supports higher FPS and graphics? - Lastly, what features would you want in a true console killer? Thanks all!
1) You don’t create your own Linux distribution; you use one that’s already available.
2) A Steam OS would be nice, but Windows would be more suitable for gaming on it.
3) I wouldn’t because I already own a PC, though console gamers might only consider it if the price was under $500.
4) Something appealing and customizable with upgrades would be ideal.
The console killer needs to be more affordable or match the cost of an Xbox One and PS4.
Linux isn't a good choice for gaming right now because few big titles support it, and most people prefer Windows. It seems like entering this market is really tough, especially with three major companies already struggling on the hardware side.
Think about adopting a distribution system, such as Ps4’s setup, which is built on an OS similar to FreeBSD. Steam OS is impressive, but you’re restricted to games available there. You’d like to merge Ubisoft and EA platforms into your setup.
You'd need to build a Linux-based operating system from the ground up. This involves developing a base operating system similar to Mike OS and requiring extensive expertise in Assembly programming. Creating an OS demands careful planning, as certain games might not run on Linux. Crafting an OS from scratch would take years of development. I offered two options, but I recommend choosing the distro for simplicity.
I can obtain top-tier hardware from vendors offering better specifications than the PS4, making it more affordable than the Xbox One. This is why I’m thinking about it. As someone who has played games for life, I aim to create a gaming platform that isn’t restricted by any single company’s control. My goal is to unite all these platforms into a single, user-friendly source.
From a hardware standpoint, it has been a while since we've been finding the right suppliers and securing competitive pricing for gamers. On the software side, the industry is moving away from the traditional model of buying a game and downloading it. That’s why I’m not limited to just using Steam OS—I’d like to support Origins, Steam, Ubisoft, and Android all under one platform. It might be feasible if we develop a custom OS based on Linux or Windows. Are there other options we haven’t explored yet?
If you plan to use several storefronts like Steam and Uplay, choose the operating system that offers the best game support—Windows is ideal. SteamOS provides a user-friendly interface and a wide selection of games without requiring custom setup. Netflix-style design, extensive game library, and no need to build your own platform are key advantages. Console options or lower-cost alternatives can also work; a budget PC with 1080p capability (like a G3258 at 270 MHz with 8GB RAM) is a solid choice. It’s straightforward to install, runs smoothly, and offers reliable performance without demanding high graphics settings.
