Provide or generate a Wi-Fi signal.
Hi everyone, I'm just starting out with this project. I have some basic computer knowledge but feel a bit unsure about networking. I’m trying to explain what I want without getting too caught up in technical mistakes—I’m mainly looking to show how I plan to use the internet at our campgrounds. We’ve been camping full-time since 2017 and help out at a few public sites that don’t have Wi-Fi. My goal is to create or boost a Wi-Fi signal so visitors and staff can access information about the park and activities. Ideally, without spending a lot of money on new gear. Right now I’m using an Acer Nitro 5 laptop with Windows 10 and a Wave Stealth AC antenna to improve Wi-Fi when possible. I’m hoping to increase my signal strength so it reaches more areas of the campground. I really appreciate any advice you can give. Thanks! Bill
You could set up a basic web server using an ESP32 with WiFi, powered by a small solar panel and battery. It runs extremely low power, making it possible to operate continuously. These boards are affordable, often available for around $5 on eBay, and require only some programming skills.
According to the original post, the camp sites lack Wi-Fi. The experiences at other camp sites I visited also didn’t offer it. It’s unclear exactly where the OP is, but most of the places I’ve been to are in state parks or more remote areas with limited internet access.
I own a personal website on a major server, but this campsite is too distant for any internet or signal access from public or private sources.
Consider enhancing the Wi-Fi, as it seems like a simpler challenge compared to what you're planning to tackle.
You'll need internet access for the campers to connect and see the page you're preparing.
