Provide guidance for a half-mile point-to-point link
You reach out to your service provider who can dispatch a technician to assess their capabilities. Typically, with a 10mb connection over long-distance DSL, the actual capacity would be less. Right now, we in the forum are still figuring out the exact costs and only know the connection reaches 10mb. That information isn't helpful since it doesn't clarify what value you're getting for that price.
It seems they’re looking for a quicker link, but DSL won’t help. The person doesn’t mention their location, but in the US companies such as AT&T have stopped giving DSL to new users. Verizon either sold off parts of its network or is letting it fall behind. They’re phasing out much of it now. If you’re lucky you might get Fiber; otherwise it’s a tough situation. What the person is aiming for is likely the best chance for a faster connection.
