How can I safeguard my computer against harmful programs? Which antivirus program offers the strongest defense? Is asking about this really a sensible question?

The most effective antivirus is really personal, isn't it? No need for one unless you're sure about what you're doing and avoid risky downloads like fap.exe. If you're careful, keep it limited to your phone or a Chromebook.

even the best protection carries some risk. Windows Defender and Chrome/Mozilla are sufficient, but no system is completely safe from threats.

I've stayed virus-free for years and the only adware I've encountered was a simple one that was quickly removed after researching online.

I rely on CCleaner and sometimes run defragmentation on my drives.

Using Malwarebytes alongside AVG or Avast is a common choice for comprehensive protection, combining antimalware and antivirus features. This approach has been shown to be effective. Avoiding suspicious files doesn’t guarantee safety, as demonstrated by a recent incident involving a trusted screen-capture app that secretly contained malware. Even well-known programs can be compromised, highlighting the importance of keeping defenses updated and vigilant.

Windows Defender remains the top choice. It quietly handles its tasks without drawing attention, all while working effectively.
