Hello!
I tried overclocking my Fx 6300 on a GA-970A-DS3P setup. Since I'm just starting out, I'm curious if it's a good idea and what advice there is to manage it properly?

I'm testing my fx6300 on the same board and reached 4.4ghz. I followed this guide, that's what I did.

The maximum overclock potential on that MB isn't very high, though it also relies on your CPU cooler and case cooling. With a stock cooler you might reach around 4GHz, while a better cooler could push it to 4.2 to 4.5GHz.
