Bitlocker functions exactly as intended, probably. My laptop is set up with Bitlocker enabled, but I think for your situation a strong password is best—especially if you have a Microsoft account. Plus, turning it on would be ideal. As for those videos, they seem a bit confusing.

Since he doesn’t want to power up his device and my computer is the most powerful in the house, I’m concerned full disk encryption might slow things down, but I have a solid SSD.

As long as BitLocker is enabled, it should work fine (you might still be able to use the system).

Just keep it running. A Windows password works as long as it's active. Encrypt the entire disk, put it to sleep instead of shutting it down, and it'll be tougher to access.

The bass nearly damaged my headphones. That comment really stood out to me. I always shut down my PSU when I turn off my PC since the GPU power light gets bright. Also, I’ve wiped the entire SSD and secured my Microsoft account login – it’s solid and hard to beat.

There are guest accounts for a valid purpose. Set up an account he can use, while keeping files private from his view. Let me know if you need further assistance.

I don’t possess any files you’d like him to view, but he’ll remain here online, absorbing content without me returning for more than four hours.

It's unnecessary to secure the system if he already understands your password.
