Protect your EA account immediately!
My account was compromised today, along with numerous others. I tried to play Battlefield 1 but my password failed verification. After clicking "forgot my password," I received two confirmation emails—one for the current request and another from 7am. Once logged in, I noticed my security question had been changed to a Russian phrase (I don’t speak Russian). Through research, I learned others are experiencing similar issues. Many posts were made in Russian on a forum, though I’m unsure if posting my name is permitted. All personal details, including my real name and game preferences, became public. Some reports also mention unauthorized purchases. More information is available here: https://www.reddit.com/r/origin/new/. Ultimately, I regained access after tech support resolved the problems. If you own an Origin or EA account, ensure a secondary email and two-step verification are active.
If you didn't have two steps on, this was unavoidable, not particularly newsworthy.
I disagree. 1. A massive hack is always news worthy 2. I had a secondary email setup and got deleted. 3. My intent is to prevent others that email is my google account, probably the most secure account I have. No strange activity so far. I wish I could post the name of the russian forum so you can see this is a massive hack with many accounts, not just mine.
Dive into the hacker mode and enjoy my free game from the origin store. I don’t have access to any payment links beyond PayPal, which is easy to dispute.
It's safe, I understand you use two-factor authentication everywhere. If someone tried to breach your account, they'd likely be caught and dealt with, or at least removed from the community.
It seems like there might be a lot of attention around this issue, not just from you. I hope we'll soon see coverage on major news outlets. On the other hand, it could be that countless accounts are being compromised every day, making it appear crowded without actually reaching a significant level. A secondary email would be helpful, though I wonder if it was set up for two-factor authentication. It's a good reminder to keep things secure.
I'll need to verify this but I've enabled two-factor authentication on my account... I also have my SWTOR key chain handy.
