Professional Series HX650 ideal for OC applications.
Hey there, lovely community,
I’m reaching out with a straightforward inquiry. My setup includes: an i7 4790k 4.0 GHz (Liquid Cooled), Zotac GTX 970, 8 GB RAM, and Asus Hero 6 MOBO. I’m aiming to upgrade this rig significantly—especially the 970—to boost its performance. Right now, my current power supply is a generic 500W unit that barely keeps up with the system, let alone support an overclock. I recently replaced it with a SeaSonic 520W PSU, but the system failed to boot. I’m considering a used HX650 Professional Series Corsair PSU from a year ago, which I can purchase. I believe this model could handle the upgrade without exceeding 600W, though it’s an older version rather than the latest. I’m aware of the risks, as using a less powerful PSU might cause issues, and I’m hesitant to spend more money again. Still, I’m determined to overclock and want to know if this Corsair unit is capable. What do you all think?
No reason why a good SEASONIC 520w shouldn't boot it , more than enough power.
