Hi everyone, I own a Windows Embedded 7 copy that includes three DVDs: one toolkit installer, and two Image Builder wizard discs for 32-bit and 64-bit versions. The package comes with a single product key. You need two Windows Embedded 7 machines—one running Windows 7 to install the toolkit—and another target machine to apply the image. The setup should allow loading a 32-bit image onto a 32-bit Image Builder disk, then using WinPE to create an image for the target system. When configuring Windows Embedded 7, it prompts for a password and product key just like a standard Windows install. My issue is that the product key inside the case shows as invalid. But when I install the first DVD on a Windows 7 PC, it accepts the key, while the toolkit DVD works fine in the case. Shouldn’t both keys match? Anyone with experience in building Windows Embedded images has advice? Thanks for your time.

A trial image can be generated without a key. The developer tools are quite flexible for testing and development. I’m not sure if embedded keys will appear in the retail package, which seems unlikely. You’ll likely receive them separately. Developer licenses are either retail or VL. The embedded image would be covered by VL or OEM licensing. I’ve mainly worked with VL; I don’t have much experience with OEM partnerships. Since the embedded image is a product we sell, the key probably won’t be included in the retail box—it’s more likely you’ll order it separately.
