You can upgrade to Windows 10 using another hard drive without needing a product key from Windows 8. It will remain the same setup, using another hard drive. I’ll unplug my current drive and cut off internet access just to increase my chances (though if authentication needs online verification I might be in trouble).

According to what I understand, the Windows key is linked to the motherboard starting from Windows 8. Therefore, changing drives doesn’t affect its functionality.
