Hey everyone, seeking advice on the most cost-effective CPU option. The machine needs to run continuously with a solid workload, emphasizing single-thread speed over multi-core count. Currently I have a 5-year-old i5 and it doesn’t really hit high performance. I’m considering 11th and 12th generation models but feel uncertain. Since I’m new to building, I want something that’s future-proof in terms of socket compatibility. I plan to use a compact case and won’t need a powerful GPU. If you have any suggestions for motherboards or want to check availability, that would be helpful. I’m also curious about specific CPUs I’m eyeing and whether the 11th generation is on sale compared to the 12th.
The 11th generation model is quite outdated and didn’t perform well initially. The fastest single-core chip was the 13600k, priced around $450 in Canada.
