Hello, I'm experiencing a problem with my i5-10600k running Turbo Boost. It's not overclocked, has 32GB RAM at 3200MHz, and uses the Corsair H100i v2. My CPU load keeps rising without any obvious cause, eventually reaching 75% and then dropping again. The fans speed up rapidly trying to cool it down, but it never reaches 50°C and I can't play a game. I used the H80 model, which had two fans for intake and exhaust, always staying around 40°C. My H100i V2 cools all six cores to about 50°C, but this is unusual. The H80 seems to be the right choice now since it's cheaper and simpler. If this isn't normal, please let me know.

It might be thermal paste. I'm also a bit worried about the H100i. Have you confirmed the pump is functioning properly?

The used H100i V2 was in excellent shape. The previous owner didn’t use it often and was moving to air cooling. I recall it wasn’t possible to apply thermal paste since we increased the amount when replacing the radiator.

you can't accurately assess the condition of internal components just by visual inspection, and i wouldn't rely on the original owner's account, especially with such questionable information. more thermal paste doesn't necessarily improve performance; in many cases it can be detrimental. the goal of thermal paste is to bridge tiny gaps without forming a thick barrier. additionally, verify that the mounting pressure is adequate.

I understand that too much thermal paste is bad, but since the radiator didn’t use any, we added a bit more from the CPU. I’m not sure my dad found it on eBay, but he’s been doing this for over ten years without any issues. He usually buys a lot from different sources around the world.

There isn't a lot of thermal paste needed unless you use the entire tube, as shown by gamers nexus. Under pressure it will slowly leak and create a mess near the socket... as long as it's not conductive, it's fine. Make sure the tube is positioned correctly relative to the pump. The top of the radiator should be elevated above the pump, and the tube should be positioned downward.

My setup is positioned at the highest point – we had sufficient thermal paste. Does it matter if one tube is warm while another remains cool? – My airflow setup includes two fans front-to-intake, one rear fan for exhaust, and the top 240mm radiator handling outflow.

I meant the block is attached directly to the CPU, not just for radiator placement. I assume that's what you had in mind. Let's see how the CPU handles load and clock speed in Task Manager.

It's wise to verify things, especially since leaks are common with AIOs. You can inspect the tubes for movement or listen to the CPU block for vibrations, and use hwinfo to check pump RPM.
