Today my son installed new components for his PC together. We're using an ASUS Prime Z270-A motherboard. The CPU is an i5 7400 3GHz, GPU is a 1060 with 3GB RAM and 16GB storage. Everything seems to be functioning properly. However, when he tries to launch Destiny, the CPU reaches its maximum at 100% and only achieves about 10fps during loading, which is much lower than the expected 100+ frames. I’m not sure what to do next. Any advice would be helpful.

I’m not sure what you’re referring to. Are you concerned about the CPU reaching full capacity? Or would you like to understand why the FPS display showed higher numbers than actual gameplay? Could you share the exact CPU and GPU models you’re using? Posting just the mainboard isn’t enough information.

I’m testing with an i5-7400 3GHz, 16GB RAM, and GTX 1060 3GB. The processor doesn’t hit high speeds during games, which might explain the lack of smooth performance. It seems like the CPU is maxed out, possibly causing the PC to slow down and freeze. I’m currently scanning for malware to check if anything is present.

The system has a specific amount of RAM, the processor is running a particular CPU model, and it is equipped with a certain type of GPU.

Take a glance at the CPU temperatures; it might be reaching maximum but slowing down to about 1.3 GHz to avoid overheating if the cooler isn't configured correctly or if the thermal paste is dry and damaged. Also, verify that the power cable connects to the GPU, not the internal graphics.

In addition to confirming temperatures, also launch Task Manager to identify which processes are consuming full CPU usage.

If the problem lies with the thermal paste, you might notice a temperature rise during game launch.

I noticed the problem. When my son connected everything back, he plugged one monitor into the main board instead of both into the graphics card. Since this isn’t my PC and I don’t use it, it’s now running at 78% CPU usage. I think that’s the usual setting. Thanks for your assistance!

If there’s a cooling problem, expect elevated temperatures and reduced CPU performance despite heavy usage. Also, verify Task Manager to identify the process using full 100% utilization.
