Cerebras Systems CS-1 is a wafer-scale processor delivering 0.86 PFLOPS across a 462.25 cm² chip containing 1.2 trillion transistors. The preprint is available on arxiv: https://arxiv.org/abs/2010.03660. A document titled "Fast Stencil-Code Computation on a Wafer-Scale Processor.pdf" accompanies the submission.

One CPU handling a massive supercomputer is certainly impressive. Check out the article for more details.

These wafer-scale units are built for specific tasks. The supercomputer used in the comparison could have a different focus. Usually, the Top500 rankings depend on fp64 scores, which seems less relevant for this device since it’s tailored for AI applications.

I know. it’s one specific type of workload that was measured the supercomputer that was beaten is also „ weak „ against the newest supercomputer from Fujitsu but that makes it still an impressive processor. I mean an entire hall of serverracks was beaten by a much smaller „ box „ when i first read the headlines that the company wanted to make this big boy processor I just thought they were mad. How would they want to cool this thing? How can you solder such a massive thing on a substrate? And many more challenges And they just did it
