Processor limited to 0.79 GHz speed
Hey guys, the setup looks solid. The i7 8750h and Acer Nitro 5 are great choices. You're seeing around 0.79 GHz even with light games, which is way below the expected range. I disabled and re-enabled BD ProChat without success—no luck there. If you're okay with it, maybe check for any background processes hogging resources or try a different driver. The CPU should hit closer to 3.80 GHz, but if it's only 1.5–2 GHz, it’s probably stuck in a bottleneck. Let me know what you find!
Your power configuration is displayed in the settings. Under load, temperatures remain consistent across different systems. The motherboard you used previously experienced a lower clock speed when powered on, but performance returned to normal when using a larger power supply. This could indicate a compatibility issue with the original power brick.
Display some images of ThrottleStop to understand your setup. When the CPU runs at its lowest speed, use the Limit Reasons window to discover why it’s throttling. Some systems limit boost power close to zero, leading to this issue. Enable the Log File feature so you can track CPU performance and any throttling reasons. Attach these details along with screenshots to your next update. Check the main interface, FIVR, TPL windows, and the Limit Reasons panel. What form does your battery take? Is it able to retain a charge for an hour? A nearly empty battery can sometimes trigger throttling even when connected to power.
1. high performance 2. pretty hot honestly... literally going up to 95 max. 3. tried searching for the error, but didnt find it 4. i mean, its not dead for sure. it works fine. i keep my laptop plugged in most of the time tho for the battery, i usually keep my laptop plugged in, but when it isnt, i usually get 1 hr 30 of battery when im just browsing the web and watching youtube. when im gaming, i get little to no battery, and also my games lag hard im not gonna do anything right now, just waiting on some update from yall on what my next step should be. cheers
Your laptop is limiting its performance when it hits 95°C, slowing down to prevent overheating. The VR thermal throttling indicates the voltage regulators are overheating as well. Cleaning the laptop and replacing thermal paste can help, but dust on heatsinks and reduced airflow also play a role. Lowering the turbo to 30 can manage heat but sacrifices performance. Avoid undervolting the Intel GPU unless necessary—better to fix cooling first. The BD PROCHOT setting is active; check the ThrottleStop screen for logs to understand the severity.
You're welcome, but I haven't cleaned anything yet. I think I should have, though I'm sorry. How can I obtain the log file?
✅ Log File checked ✅ The file is in your ThrottleStop / Logs folder. Make sure ThrottleStop closes first so it writes properly. Keep your laptop updated with regular care for best results. Skipping maintenance can hurt performance over time—better to invest a bit now than fix big issues later. This approach saves money compared to constantly replacing the device.
