Processor keeps reducing performance at high temperature and stops functioning.
Hey everyone, my friend reached out for tech help but I’m stuck now. Last night his system, which was about three years old, suddenly dropped to just 15 FPS after 144+. He checked temperatures and his CPU (i7-9700k) hit 99°C – thermal throttling was happening. I suggested he verify the AIO waterblock for looseness, the radiator tubes (one hot, one warm), and the fan spin. It seems pumps and the radiator are still functioning. But now it won’t even boot. There’s a brief fan spin when the CPU’s Debug LED lights up, then the DRAM LED, and then the PC shuts down instantly. Also shared two WhatsApp videos from July 9th and 33rd.
His friend’s AIO liquid system isn’t circulating enough, leading to poor heat transfer. The coolant won’t reach the desired temperature, causing the radiator to malfunction (like trying to cool 90°C down to 30°C with only a small flow). Maintaining consistent temperature across the loop helps. He could add another cooler or reposition the CPU in the socket. If he replaced the cooler, over-tightening might prevent startup. Lowering the mounting pressure may resolve the issue. Another possibility is the RAM was shifted during installation. Reseat just one stick into slot A2; a new cooler might be needed. Hopefully the CPU and motherboard are still functional.
It seems the results aren't clear enough. Consider purchasing a new cooler, remember to replace the thermal paste, and definitely think about getting an air cooler as well. Gl!
