I had a thought while reflecting on PhysX and its past use by specialized 'PhysX Processors' or PPUs. Then I considered the incredible potential of real-time true Ambient Occlusion. That’s why I came up with the concept of an Ambient Occlusion Processor card (AOP?). It would be something really interesting!

The issue lies in AO being applied uniformly across all systems; thus Nvidia and AMD must reach consensus on a common standard, which isn't imminent. I prefer my HBAO+.

Nvidia already possesses the capability, though widespread use in games will likely be delayed for several years due to upcoming hardware limitations. We probably won't see this technology in titles until at least four to six generations from now.

The moment when nVidia and AMD merge their innovations would mark the day they unite their advancements.

Absolutely, I noticed that. I'm excited about seeing it applied in a Crysis 3 update. (Just a joke!)
