Hello, you're looking to upgrade your setup with a new machine that pairs well with a Nvidia GTX 1660 or RTX 2060. Your main worry is the CPU—specifically the Intel Core i5-9400F, which lacks built-in graphics. You've faced challenges installing Linux on laptops with discrete GPUs before, often needing to disable the external GPU for installation. Since you don’t have a spare CPU to test, and you need a functional machine quickly, you’re considering whether it’s feasible to run Linux without integrated graphics. Also, you’re curious if similar issues apply to AMD CPUs like the Ryzen 5 2600. Thanks in advance for your help!

Linux runs smoothly on these machines. It won’t cause any problems. I’ve worked with Linux on many similar setups. Laptops differ because the GPU is often optimized for power savings.

Intel processors paired with nVidia graphics cards work well when using the appropriate motherboard. Without built-in graphics, you can either cut costs or upgrade your setup!

Running on a Ryzen 5 2600 with an used RX470, everything works out of the box. Based on experience, AMD supports open source well, so if you aim for smooth performance, opt for AMD GPUs since their drivers come pre-installed. Keep in mind, upgrading to the latest hardware for Linux isn’t ideal—support can take time. NVIDIA is also fine, but you often need proprietary drivers from the official site, which means using the full packet manager features and possibly facing more issues during updates.

Sorry, the AMD GPU isn't available since I require CUDA cores. Your explanation helped clarify things! Other responses seem to support this.
