I'm using 5600x paired with RTX 3060 Ti. My workflow involves heavy Python work with numpy, SciPy, cartopy, and xarray, often handling very large datasets (~GBs). Plotting high-resolution coastlines in cartopy is a major bottleneck. I also run CPU and GPU-intensive games like Cities Skylines, modded Minecraft, Cyberpunk, and Sea of Thieves. I'm considering an AM4 upgrade. Purely for gaming, 5800X3D is obvious, but I'm unsure about specific performance gains. I'd prefer a balance—better cores without overspending, unless the improvement is significant. Any suggestions?
Python runs on a single core unless you design multi-threaded logic. You won’t notice a major boost in Python performance on AM4 from a 5600X.
Adjust your code to utilize multiple cores or run several instances of your program on different data slices. Consider identifying bottlenecks—such as improving memory access with a RAM drive or storing large datasets in RAM for quicker operations. A size of 5800x3d could be effective if your applications can leverage the additional 64 MB cache. Python might not be ideal, but certain libraries could offer optimizations.
