Hey, I noticed your PC has been showing high CPU temperatures around 85% and above when under load, which is unusual. You mentioned hitting 90+ during heavy use and triggering a kill switch, which is concerning. On idle, it’s usually between 35-40%, which seems normal for you. Your cooling setup looks decent with the H500 cooler and the Noctua NH-U14S fans, but I’m not sure if that’s enough under stress. If your gaming performance drops noticeably at those temps, it might point to a cooler or thermal paste issue. A more powerful fan could help, but it’s also possible the CPU cooler isn’t delivering consistent heat. Let me know what you think!
90 degrees under full load is typical for 10900, 39°C during idle is slightly high but remains within acceptable limits. Try adjusting the fan curves further. Additional checks to consider: Thermal paste was applied properly, cooling pressure was sufficient, and CPU fan orientation is correct. PSU fans should be positioned on the bottom side.
Additionally, if you left the clear protection film on the base of the CPU cooler, it won’t have any noticeable temp warning signs until it’s goes under load, then you’ll notice the high temps. May not notice it surfing web or watching videos. I SPEAK FROM EXPERIENCE. Unscrew the CPU cooler and check for a plastic film between that, any thermal paste, and the CPU. If there is remove it and reapply thermal paste, should work fine. This is more common and an easy first step to take to resolve this high temp.
Moreover, cleaning the CPU cooler could be beneficial. While I’m not suggesting anything overly complex, these steps seem likely to assist. Also, it’s advised to reapply thermal paste annually—choose a cheaper brand each time. Over time, it may crack and harden, reducing the contact area between the paste and the CPU, which diminishes heat transfer efficiency. After a year, this could account for the temperature spikes that weren’t present the previous year.
It looks like the thermal paste on your CPU was successfully changed and no excess plastic remained. Your idle performance has improved to around 27-30, and under load it now sits at 45-50 degrees, which is a big boost. Interestingly, the noctua paste you applied didn’t seem to last as long as expected.
