While playing Pax Dei the front of my case feels quite warm. Is an SG05 not sufficient for the CPU in SIG? I own a Noctua NH-L9x65, a Premium Low-Profile CPU Cooler (65mm, Brown).

Is the temperature inside your case within acceptable limits?

It's quite hot (around 90°C for regular folks) and it's running at a high temperature range for the 5800X. A 90x65mm mini cooler in a compact case won't do much. Have you considered adjusting the voltage?

For reference, 195F is 90C. OP, if you're going to list temperatures, do them in celcius as they are the agreed upon unit for measuring computer temps, almost no one on here can read Fahrenheit in relation to CPU temps without converting it to C themselves. It's like giving a car's fuel efficiency in mm 2 , it's not technically wrong, but no one knows what you're talking about. Having an MMO get the CPU up to 90C isn't that unheard of, they tend to be more CPU heavy and that's not an amazing CPU cooler. Besides, Ryzen 5000 is designed to run at redline for most of its life, so it's not that abnormal for it to be running at 90C. If it gets above that, then I'd start to worry, but as it is now I wouldn't really care that much.

Consider placing me in a better position as a fan at the front of the case. I’d like the PSU on the side so the top vent can allow airflow to the CPU. Psx Dei is still in early development, so it might not always get that hot.

that's such a delightfully specific refernece. on topic; that's a very small cooler for a very big CPU. that's just what thermals look like when you cant go big tower cooler or watercooling.

In Windows the same game runs smoothly. Proton seems to heavily use the CPU. The BIOS manages the fans, meaning Linux lacks dedicated control software. Which fan does the Sugo SG05 use? Additionally, what is a top-rated 120mm fan to purchase?

Enable the eco mode on your CPU, which caps power usage around 70 watts and helps it stay cooler. It may still handle games well.

Justrt wanted this to help maintain a cooler temperature. The current unit warns against overclocking. I assumed it wasn’t enabled unless the motherboard supports it by default. ID-COOLING IS-55 is a black CPU cooler with a slim profile, 57mm height, featuring 5 heatpipes and a slim fan designed for Intel LGA1700/115X/1200 and AMD AM4/AM5 systems.

The common advice to avoid overclocking is not applicable here. The main point is that the 5800X isn't built for high performance cooling like the NH-L9. It might be safe to let it run slightly above its maximum temperature and allow it to throttle, which could help lower temps. If you're aiming for cooler operation, you could try reducing its power draw in the BIOS to around 65 watts and test the results.
