I didn't anticipate such high CPU consumption. It has actually gotten worse recently. You're correct, the cooler seems to be a significant issue.

If your CPU reaches 90°C, it’s signaling discomfort because there’s a significant temperature rise. This differs from simply overheating, which could cause the system to shut down to protect itself. You’re likely checking the CPU’s thermal limit and assuming it can safely operate at that level continuously—most new PC users misunderstand this. The ideal running temperature should stay below 80°C, especially when using water cooling. When the CPU is hot, it’s attempting to lower its speed to prevent damage, meaning it’s probably running much slower than expected if you hadn’t overclocked.

It will be quite intense. It has eight cores and eight threads. I think the game is running on 1080p, and he’s also tackling CPU-heavy titles. If he went to 1440p or higher, things would change significantly.

Upgrade to a higher-performance cooler for closer to 5GHz overclocking.

However, the issue has changed recently. My CPU still stays in the 60-70 degree range, which is unusual. I ran tests with AIDA64 and Cinebench R20, but after an OC, the temperatures were higher than before. I’m curious why this is happening now.

Have you verified and updated the thermal paste? Remember, parts heat up when they operate inefficiently, so insufficient or excessive voltage can cause them to overheat, just like motors do. You might need to experience the advantages of an overclock for a short time before reaching the final stages. Something on the CPU or board isn’t thriving anymore and can’t perform properly. It usually happens when it can’t cool down, indicating you might be at that stage.

~100% CPU consumption is acceptable as it varies based on available cores/threads the games can utilize. If only four cores are engaged at full capacity (such as with a 9700K that has eight cores), Task Manager will display around 50% usage. If your processor throttles and pushes usage to 100%, that’s another situation to consider. Have you recently performed this overclock and stress test? Thermal paste may degrade, dry out, or wear over time...the radiator and fans can accumulate dust gradually. Has the room temperature risen?
