Process experiences sudden jumps to maximum performance.
While playing various games I encounter freezing issues where everything halts on the PC. The I/O cooler LCD freezes, audio becomes static, then everything resumes but with delays. Upon restarting it appears as if there was a buffer, showing what should have happened during the freeze. Initially assumed the problem was CPU-related and switched from 7950x to 7950x3d, but that didn’t resolve the issue. I also changed my DDR5 from GSKILL Trident Neo to Corsair Dominator without improvement. On the MSI monitor it displays random spikes reaching 100% CPU usage before returning to a normal 30-40 Specs CPU, 7095x3d GPU, ASUS Strix 4090 RAM, GSKILL Trident Neo 32GB (16x2), PSU Corsair 1000RMX, Samsung 990 Pro 2TB and 980Pro 2TB storage, plus Corsair H170 420mm fans. Adding an extra 9 Corsair RGB fans didn’t help.
I’d begin by checking software issues before changing any hardware, and it seems nothing improved. Here’s what to do:
- Update BIOS
- Verify CPU spikes
- Install AMD chipset drivers
- Confirm CPU spikes again
- Remove Corsair software
- Reinstall Windows
- Recheck for CPU spikes
