Hey there! I've noticed my laptop isn't connecting to the internet using the SIM card dongle. I've been trying to figure out possible reasons and shared what I've done so far. To be clear, this device comes from my mobile network provider. It functions perfectly on both my wife's laptop and my own work machine. The issue began after I received the laptop from someone I wasn't sure about, who later disappeared without explanation. Thanks to the police and a lawyer, I managed to recover it. It took around a month. Here’s what I attempted:
1. Checked Device Manager – showed up via USB, but there were errors like "can't start."
2. Downloaded drivers from the manufacturer's site (Huawei). I suspect the wrong files were downloaded initially; I installed them manually and ran Windows Defender warnings afterward.
3. Asked my ISP for help. They suggested it might be a driver problem, but also hinted at a hardware fault. They confirmed the Wi-Fi and cellular cards on the motherboard work fine, and tested it on my wife's laptop – same results.
