Hey everyone, I just moved into a new apartment and have been facing some strange internet problems. My PC is the only one affected out of the three in the apartment. Initially, everything works fine over Ethernet, but my communication apps (Discord, Slack, Work Phone) suddenly disconnect. A restart fixes the issue. Another problem is similar: when I browse or play online, my internet drops and I can’t resolve hostnames. I can ping 1.1.1.1 perfectly, but when I try to ping sites like Google.com, it fails. My WiFi is working perfectly and never causes these issues.

I’ve tried many fixes: running commands like ipconfig /flushdns, resetting network settings, using a new Ethernet cable, disconnecting my switch and wiring PC directly to the router, and reinstalling network drivers. I’m pretty sure it’s a hardware problem, even though my old connection was stable. Anyone have any suggestions? I’m really stuck and need help.

you checked the tcp configuration on your nic and enabled dns auto. it seems like a dns server you can't reach, especially after the router is installed. ideally, the router should handle dns, and the gateway should match its ip address so it can act as dns.

I'm sorry for the oversight—I didn't include that as one of my attempts. It was my initial idea when I encountered these problems.

The DNS problem persists. As you mentioned, you can ping 1.1.1.1 but not resolve names. Try switching your DNS to 8.8.8.8 and check if it improves the situation.

It doesn't really matter whether you enable DNS over HTTPS or not. It mainly affects privacy during DNS lookups, but it won't impact your connection speed or security in this case.

You may need to restart the stack, which is also called rebooting, to notice a change.
