Problems with screen/start-up after liquid splash?
Hey everyone,
My cat accidentally spilled a glass of coke onto my PC while I was using music. The sound cut out briefly but then came back. I turned it off and let it dry for a few hours—dryness affected the pieces. After restarting, the PC didn’t have any display issues from the GPU, but there was still water coming from the radiator. I shut it down and cleaned it, then waited before turning it back on. Now the second GPU is causing problems: it beeps three times, shuts off, turns on again, and then powers off completely.
Is this a sign that my motherboard is failing or if there’s a PCIe issue?
review everything for liquid stains or residue.
examine all parts outside for any liquid marks and inside if you're okay taking apart the graphics card, power supply, etc., looking for drips into the CPU socket, etc.
i've encountered this situation many times and it's hard to predict what might be impacted.
often only connected devices on the motherboard (like PCIe parts, drives, memory) are affected, sometimes the board itself, sometimes the power supply.
the best option might be to bring it to a repair shop or ask someone familiar with hardware to test each part individually and identify which still works properly.
I've worked with assembling computers; it seems the motherboard might be damaged, though it managed to start after the spill. The GPUs appear normal, behaving consistently during boot.
you might only find out after examining every part separately what is broken.
if you manage to obtain a comparable setup, or possess one nearby, then begin evaluating each item individually.
if the motherboard was dead, it wouldn't supply power or manage other devices.
if its main circuits are broken, it's hard to know which parts still work.
the only solution is to check each part individually and figure out what's affected.
The motherboard illuminates its Aorus X570 elite, with fans spinning and GPU lights flickering briefly before turning off. The light fades, yet the fan continues to run. There is no sound from the motherboard speaker, and the screen remains dark.
