I've been working on getting my computer to stream to Twitch with the Raptor Gaming app that came with my R9 290. It keeps showing "starting stream" but never actually launches. I managed to play through three Hearts Stone games, but the stream never started. Could you suggest possible issues or alternatives?

I haven't come across Bitdefender before, so I'm not sure if it's a good choice.

Save OBS and connect it for streaming instead.

Sure. I've been using OBS for a long time, but I upgraded to an older i7 and a R9-290. Ratpr said it would give me better performance.
