Problems with GTA V performance
Problems with GTA V performance
Hi everyone, I've been playing GTA V nonstop for a while, maintaining around 60fps consistently. However, about two weeks ago I noticed sudden drops in frame rate with no apparent cause. Since then, the performance has improved back to normal after a couple of days, without any driver changes. Recently, with the latest update (I don’t recall the 1.2x version, it took about 74MB to download), my issues returned. I’m struggling to get above 47fps, even in safe zones like safehouses. Outside that, I usually see between 28fps and 37fps. I’ve tried adjusting VSync settings and applying optimal GeForce Exp options, but nothing worked. My system specs are solid—i7-4790k, GTX970, 16GB RAM, WD Enterprise HDD, and Windows 10 64-bit. All other games run fine. I’m unsure what to do next.
Your system is definitely capable of running the game. Although it sounds overused, you might want to reinstall it to fix any file issues. When did you switch to Windows 10? The problems began a few weeks ago, which could be the cause.
If you downloaded the game from Steam, it’s a good idea to check your cache. Another option is to test other games and observe any FPS reductions; this could indicate background software, such as antivirus, affecting your system.
I purchased it from a store, but it isn’t listed in the Steam library. I’m curious if RGSC has a file integrity checker. As mentioned earlier, none of my other games are experiencing any FPS drops. Your suggestion about Kaspersky AV might help—though I don’t see a clear link to the issue, I’ll try disabling it to check.
I've tried that and it didn't make a difference. I also installed the newest Nvidia drivers (355.82 WHQL) released this evening. FPS numbers stayed the same. The only way to boost performance seems to be reducing settings so the game uses just under 2800MB of the 4000MB VRAM, though I usually kept it below 3500MB because of the 3.5GB VRAM problem with the 970 model. It's frustrating having a powerful machine but not being able to run a game that previously worked perfectly.
I had already responded to another user, and I added GTA V to my system once I upgraded to Windows 10.
